Medical Imaging

Medical practice is being greatly improved through the information that the analysis of images, gatheried non-invasively, can bring. Computers are being used to analyse X-Ray and MRI images for abnormalities (cancer tumours, blocked areteries, damaged hearts, etc.).

With our medical collaborators (under Flavia Cicuttini) we have been working on Knee Cartilage segmentation and volume estimation - see James' Homepage

We (mainly with Fiona Chen) have developed unique methods for exttracting the FULL 3-D motion from MRI images of the moving human heart.

We (mainly with David Lee) also using techniques to look for micro-calcifications in breast scans.
